It was the year 1886 when Tsar Nikolai II and Tsarina Alexandra got married and were crowned. The celebrations were impressive and were attended by representatives of the noble families of Greece, Persia, Romania, Denmark, Belgium, China and Japan. This event is remembered as a happy day for the Russian Empire but a difficult day for the new Tsar, charged with responsibility at the young age of 26. In memory of this day in 1897 the jeweler Fabergé created the amazing “Coronation Egg”. Today this egg is exhibited at the Kremlin's Diamond Fund. The Alexandra collection is inspired by the “Coronation Egg” and its baroque decorations, the details of the decorations are a strong reference to the Russian goldsmith tradition.
